Old boys needed at Southampton

Now all I’m thinking about is winning my place back in the Southampton side; as one of the bigger earners at the club, I found myself left out for financial reasons at the start of the season, which was frustrating, but highlights the politics that are now part and parcel of football.

But once the window closed and I was still at the club, I became available for selection and feel I have a big role to play in the side. As most people are aware, we have a very young side this season and although these lads are very talented, it’s impossible for them to keep their consistency and fitness going when you’re sometimes playing three games in a week. It’s therefore important for the more senior players, who remain at the club, to help these players through and give the side a bit more solidity.

I’m certain they all have big futures and that the club will go places in time but in the short-term it’s all about safeguarding the team’s status as a Championship club and I intend to play my part.
